Swami Rara Review

A fresh wave of change.
A sincere attempt at bringing a new style of film making into Telugu cinema.
An apt inspiration from the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Ram Gopal Verma with a sleek implementation.

Swami Rara is definitely all of the above. There was only one question that people preferred to ask me when I told them that I had watched Swami Rara over the last weekend. Why Swami Rara? Nikhil can never be a reason to watch a movie. Swathi is a natural but may not be a reason that big to drive me to the theatre. But, one of my acquaintance's close association with the film and the teaser and songs that he had been promoting all along on Facebook one month prior to its release definitely made me make up my mind that I was going to go watch it anytime before it's taken out. 

Now coming to the quintessential question. 
Why Swami Rara?
Gun violence and the famous Quentin Tarantino branded slow motion shots were beautifully captured. The climax scene reminded me of the chaotic fun that Ram Gopal Verma happened to create once with his Money series. Engaging plot. Subtle comedy that is never forced on to you. Music that sounds different from the usual Thaman, Mani Sharma etc. crop.

It is a pity and concern that a natural and spontaneous actress like Swathi has never been given a proper foothold in the industry. And, I still doubt if it is going to change with this film. Nobody else could have played her character the way she did. I hope she gets her due at least now.

Aatma - Feel the fun around you

Aatma, to put simply, is about a single parent (Bipasha as Maya) who lives with her five year old daughter (Niya) after getting separated from her violent and abusive husband (Nawazuddin as Abhay). A quick flashback reveals Abhay's accident and the reason why Niya  never gets to see her father. Abhay, the possessive father that he used to be, returns from death only to take revenge on Maya and take their daughter away with him to the world of dead.

Aatma is a mediocre film with hardly any scary scenes that it promised for its genre except for a couple of sound effects here and there. In fact, you might actually end up laughing over a few scenes like the one where Abhay comes to possess Niya, or the climax scene where Maya's mother comes to see her off etc..

Music is probably the only thing that could haunt you for a while after coming out of the theatre. All in all, an effort not worth it. I would have pinched myself thrice at the least after reading a statement from the director that he foresees Bipasha winning a National award for this movie. Hence, a more apt tagline for the movie - Feel the fun around you. :)

Dum Maaro Dum - A slick flick

Rohan Sippy and Abhishek Bachchan had given us the uber-chic "Bluffmaster". They are now back after a long time with some powerful supporting cast and a sleek storyline. Mix varied cast, slick screenplay and great technicality and what you get is Dum Maaro Dum.

The story is all set amidst drug abuse issues in Goa. ACP Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan) is vested upon with the responsibility of cleaning up Goa from drug scams by the Home Minister. He chooses two police officials, Mercy and Rana, for this mission. Joki Fernandez (Rana Daggubati) runs a music shop and sings part-time at parties. His is a happy life with girlfriend Zoe (Bipasha Basu), until she falls victim to drug trafficking and is taken away from him by Lorsa Biscuite (Aditya Pancholi) - a leading business man in Goa and the backbone of drug trafficking there.

Lorry (Prateik Babbar) is a student who is rejected financial aid for study at a foreign university, while his girl friend Taani (Anaita) gets it. He gets involved in drug trafficking for the sake of money to go to New York, but gets caught by Kamath. The story runs in parallel tracks in the beginning with narrations from the three men - Kamath, Lorry and Joki - about their life.

The movie is a treat to watch, but there are some loose ends in the screenplay which should have been taken care of, like the episodes of Ricky's murder which goes away without any investigation, episode where ACP Kamath understands who Michael Barbossa is without any background and the climax episode which looked very easy to get away with. Music, cinematography and editing keep up with the film's pace. Performances by all actors are good especially Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu, who acted really well in this film. Go catch it this weekend.

Nothing new in Nagavalli

I watched this flick called Nagavalli a couple of weeks back which is supposed to be the sequel to the 2005's Chandramukhi. There were a lot of expectations built around the film with the kind of promos on telivision and print media. Nothing could match up to all this when we were actually watching it on big screen. It had the same story and the same prominent characters picked up from Chandramukhi. Venkatesh hardly fitted the role and lacked the poise and charisma with which superstar Thalaivar Rajnikant had donned the role earlier. The guru-disciple twist sounded very funny and the screenplay carried many flaws.

The only role which looked believable in spite of being extended from the prequel was that of Sri Ramachandra Siddhanti (Avinash). The presence of four heriones was just a gimmick to garner goody points for the film even before its release. Kamilini Mukerjee acted well in a miniature role. Anushka was also good, but she needs to throw some attention at her constantly increasing weight. Shraddha Das was disappointing and two of her reel sisters (Poonam Kaur and a newbie) had no role to talk about. Richa Gangopadhyay was okay as the victim. Sharatbabu and Prabha were adequate as parents of the four sisters.

There is nothing to comment on the music as you will hardly remember any tune once out of the theatre. Cinematography was decent and editing was crisp to an extent.

I Hate Luv Stor(y)s

What happens when there is sizzling chemistry between the lead pair sans any story? Result would be a cliched film like I Hate Luv Storys. Now, what does storys mean? Punit Malhotra, first time director from the "Karan Johar's school" should only be able to tell us. After all, he tried so hard to make this film look urban. Coming to the lead pair, I must admit that I had got mesmerized for the third time watching Sonam kapoor (as simran) with an exuberant display of skill and charm, after Sawariyan and Delhi6. Imran Khan as Jai Dhingra, prefers to be called Jay not Jai, as the latter does not go with his cool casanova image. Sameer Dattani as Raj, Simran's fiance is as expressionless as a rock. Time for him to realize this.

Jay is an AD (assistant director) to Veer, a director who tastes grand success with every run-of-the-mill love story of his. He hates romantic films, but sticks to Veer's team for the sake of his resume and monthly bills. Enter Simran, an art director, hired to work on Veer's new romantic saga and Jay assists her. Simran falls in love with him as he makes her realize that her so called perfect life with Raj is not as perfect as she had thought it to be. Dreams shatter to reality when Jay tells Simran that he does not feel the same for her. But, he eventually realizes his love for her and wins her back on the same day as the film premiers.

The first half of the film is a little entertaining but the second half tests your patience with a sagging plot. Music by Vishal-Shekhar is just okay with Bin Tere and Sajda standing out from the album. I will recommend this film for just one reason - Sonam A Kapoor.

Rajneeti - A Political Feud

Hunger for power, shrewd politics, women, handful of murders and an extra marital affair is Rajneeti. Prakash Jha tried to flush all these into a 160 odd minute movie. The film begins with a flashback showing Bharthi, Chief Minister Ramnath's daughter indulging in leftist ideologies against her father with prominent leftist, Bhaskar Sanyal. She takes a liking for Bhaskar and gets into an illicit relationship with him; He leaves for unknown places having overcome with a sense of guilt. Bharthi eventually gets pregnant and her brother, Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar) abandons the child (who grows up to become Dalit leader, Sooraj played at ease by Ajay Devgan) on a river bank. Bharthi gets married to Chandra Pratap, younger brother of Bhanu Pratap who leads the Rashtravadi party. Time passes by and Bhanu Pratap suffers from a severe stroke. He hands over the party power to Chandra Pratap and his son Prithvi Pratap (Arjun Rampal) by sidelining his own son, Veerendra Pratap (played brilliantly by Manoj Bajpai).

Unable to digest this, Veerendra Pratap tries to show his supremacy in the party by working against both his uncles' (Chandra Pratap and Brij Gopal) and his cousin's will. Upon failure, he takes aid in Sooraj and quickly devises plans to remove the obstacles in his path to power. Chandra Pratap is killed in this process while he is on his way back to hospital after seeing his younger son, Samar Pratap (Ranbir Kapoor) off at the airport. Sooraj and Veerendra play their cards quickly and get Prithvi behind the bars under false accusations. Samar promises Brij Gopal that he will restore everything to normal and teach both Veerendra and Suraj a lesson.

Samar shrewdly devises plans to let his brother out from jail and set up a new political party, Janshakthi under his brother's candidature. He also gets his brother married to Indu (Katrina Kaif), daughter of a rich business tycoon in the idea of generating surplus funds for the campaign trail. Indu sacrifices her love for Samar and marries Prithvi. Sooraj and Veerendra counteract and plant a bomb in Samar's car to kill him. Things do not work as planned when Prithvi and Samar's American girlfriend, Sarah die in the blast. Samar then decides that he will not let relationships come in between and takes oath to kill both Sooraj and Veerendra. Meanwhile, Bharthi comes to know that Sooraj is her eldest son and tries to cajole him into leaving Veerendra and accepting Samar as his brother, only to face disappointment.

Indu steps into Prithvi's place and contests the elections and eventually wins with a very high majority. Veerendra and Sooraj go to an abondoned factory to take revenge on Samar when they hear that Indu has won because of the EVMs getting hacked, and are killed before they realize that it is a plan to bring them there singly. The film ends with Indu getting pregnant with Prithvi's child and Samar returning to America.

The film was promoted as a story resembling the characters in Mahabharata, but I personally could not relate both to even a small extent except for Ajay Devgan's role resembling Karna's. It may not be a great film but Rajneeti is a one-time flick with good screenplay and powerful dialogues.

A Mere Leader

I catched up with Leader yesterday. My expectations were very high and I was eagerly waiting for this film to release since Decenber. Alas, it had nothing much to fulfil those expectations. The message was good and quite idealistic (I like idealisic films because you hardly get to witness such things in real life), but the film lacked punch and the screenplay too lagged in many parts. The usage of songs in a subtle manner to gel with the story was good. I was greatly disappointed to realize that "Maa telugu thalliki" song was just made instrumental when the beautiful voice of Tanguturi Suryakumari garu would have added intensity to the climax, which otherwise did not have a great impact.


Leader also bored me in few places and the dubbing done for Ratna Prabha's character sounded quite unrealistic and bad. The romantic track between Rana and Richa was neat and acceptable. Rana has made a good start as an actor, so did Richa Gangopadhyay as Archana, a reporter and social worker. Rana can improve on his dialogue delivery and modulation. Kota Srinivas Rao and Ahuti Prasad as presidents of opposition parties are apt for their roles. Subba raju and Rao Ramesh also fit into the villainous roles with their routing acting. Editing is not crisp and its poor form shows up at a number of places in the film.

Music by Mickey J Meyer is adequate. Aunana Kadana and Leader theme are catchy and stay with you even after you come out of the theatre. On the whole, the film is okay to watch.

I am planning to add a new column section called My Films to this blog, where I would be sharing videos of the short films or teasers that I had shot (also read involved with) or would shoot in future. Most of them could carry a message on civic issues, social issues, health etc.. Now let me see how far I can take this successfully.

Kavya's Diary - A very old one

Telugu film Kavya's Diary is highly 'inspired' by the 1992 English flick, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, so much so that even part of the dialogues are adapted suitably. The film's dialogue 'The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world', adapted from William Ross' peom by the same name and literally translated as 'laalinche chetule prapanchanni paalistaayi', is somewhat difficult to digest.

Raj (Indrajit) and Pooja (Manjula) move into their new bungalow with their daughter Amulya a.k.a. Ammu and their toddler son. Pooja spends half of her time in the green house next to the bungalow. She files a complaint with the police against one gynaecologist, Dr. Kiran who misbehaves with her when she's pregnant with her second child. He commits suicide and his wife Maya (Charmi) vows to kill Pooja and snatch her family away from her. She enters their house as Kavya, the governess for the child. Rest of the plot is how she plans to ruin Raj and Pooja's relationship and takeover as the mother of the kids, though she is the one who gets killed in the end with the help of Raj and the care taker, Athidhi (Satyam Rajesh).

There is nothing new in this film. Everything is just neatly arranged from an already existing story to suit the taste of the Telugu audience. Guess what the creative team at Indira Productions did to back their credit for the Concept and Story of the film. Manjula's performance was neat considering her low acting profile.

Mystic India - Truly an incredible journey

Mystic India is a must watch for every Indian and for every religion. It is the journey of an 11-year old boy, Neelkanth, who walked over 8000 miles across India barefoot and barebody in quest of truth and spiritual enlightenment, before obtaining sanyas (Asceticism or spiritual yoga). This boy Neelkanth later grew up into a renowned saint and world reformer, Swaminarayan after embracing Uddhav Sampraday from Swami Ramanand.

The film captures the real mood of spiritual India - its architectural wonders, ancient wisdom and the innumerable holy places along the length and breadth of the country. Every picture frame in Mystic India is awe-inspiring and leaves you wanting more of it. The breathtaking locales from the Himalayas to the Cherrapunji, from the South waters to the Ganges are enough to blow your mind. The story of Neelkanth is neatly woven into this epic film on the unity, cultural diversity and the underlying spirituality in India.

The casting done for Neelkanth's role in the film is brilliant - Latesh Patel and Rupak Mehta playing the young and the adolescent Neelkanth respectively. The film was made in Hindi and its English version has a scenic narration by Peter O 'Toole.

Mystic India is much more than a documentary considering its reel time of 50 minutes. As the film was made on the 70mm film or the Imax format, it is not possible for it to be played everywhere. It is currently being shown in India at Prasads Imax, Hyderabad and Adlabs Imax, Mumbai. I recommend Mystic India to every human being who would like to get inspired.

13B is an interesting watch

I got to read mixed reviews on 13B starring Madhavan since its release. I liked the movie myself when I watched it on Saturday. It may not have the most interesting plot ever shown in any movie, but it is gripping in parts. Please put your logic aside because this one is a supernatural thriller and we just cannot discuss logic here - ghosts defy logic.. they can enter a telivision or even a cell phone for that matter and communicate with you! Do ghosts exist? is something which is not relevant to this post. We assume ghosts exist and that is how you gotto watch this film.

Manahor aka Manu (Madhavan) and his brother Manoj move into the 13B flat on the 13th floor of their new apartment with their families. Things somehow do not seem to be going well for Manu after shifting into this new house. Adding to that, he realizes that everything that is to happen in his life (or in their house) is planned in advance by a daily soap on T.V. called Sab Khairiyat, which the women in the house get addicted to. Rest is all about how he chases the mystery surrounding the bad omens of number 13 in his life, the characters that appear in that daily soap and the reason behind their death some 20 years ago in the same building where this new apartment is now built.

13B is a cautiously made film and with extreme care not to miss continuity with any of the links in the story. Everybody did well on the acting front especially Madhavan, Neetu Chandra (Madhavan's wife) and the one who played the mentally disturbed Ashok. 13B progresses in the hollywood style of narration and it is no wonder that the US based production house, Weinstein Co has already offered to buy its remake rights in hollywood.

8X10 Tasveer

8X10 Tasveer is a supernatural thriller that stars Akshay Kumar as Jai Puri, a forest range officer, who has an unusual power of knowing the past just by looking at a photograph. He gets to see, for a minute, everything that took place at the time when a particular photograph was taken. The film is all about how he uses this power on multiple occasions with a single 8X10 photograph to unravel the mystery behind his father's death.

The suspense element is maintained until the end and this forms the pulse of 8X10 Tasveer. The climax, however, could have been better sans all the typical bollywood drama. The suspense, though, when revealed might look silly or bring out the usual 'ah! is this what I have been waiting for?' kind of an expression, but you bet is highly unpredictable. The recording done for the film is brilliant and so is the photography.

Javed Jaffri as an ex-cop helping Jai with his investigation is very good and brings in good humour at times. Sharmila Tagore is convincing as Jai's widow mother and Ayesha Takia also looks promising. The film is very rich in its technicalities. Nagesh Kukunoor made every effort to make 8X10 Tasveer look technically brilliant and has come out quite successfully with it.

Aakasamantha - "Memoirs of a Father"

The latest Telugu movie Aakasamantha, directed by first timer Radha Mohan, is quoted as a small but cute film by its producer ('Dil' Raju) and director. The film unveils the experiences of Raghuram (Prakashraj) as the father of a girl (played in three stages) as he narrates them to a stranger (Jagapathi Babu in a cameo) at a park.

Raghuram owns a tea estate in Coimbatore and lives with his wife (Aishwarya) and daughter (Abhi, played by Trisha). He loves his daughter very much, so much so that he once slaps his wife when he realizes that Abhi is hurt in the kitchen. He is very protective and possessive of her. The film is based on the father-daughter relationship (another Telugu flick on parent-child relations), though few scenes look quite unnatural.

Prakashraj is a delight to watch (in spite of getting bored with his monotonous act all along, I am amazed at his comic timing which came forth strikingly in this movie). He is in fact the only asset to this movie. If it were not for him playing Raghuram, I do not think the film would have been at least half as good as it is now. G.V.Raman makes his debut as a well educated sardar, who also forms Trisha's love interest.

Aakasamanta may not be a great film to vouch for, but it has its own comic punches and feel good moments. You can go for it if you have not much to do on the weekend.

Delhi-6 or Kala bandar - How does it matter?

I will not recommend Delhi-6, the new film by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (director of Rang De Basanti), to anybody except for Abhishek Bachchan or Sonam Kapoor fans. The film created much hype before its release, more so with names like the above. The film is more like a narration of few chronological events from the diary of a US born Indian, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan), who visits India for the first time when he brings his ill grandmother (Waheeda Rehman) back from the US.

Sonam Kapoor plays Bittu, neighbour of Abhishek and a college-going girl who aims to make it big in the world of music through a reality show on music called Indian Idol. Sonam plays her usual self and fits the role. The best thing about this film is its cast. There are the likes of Om Puri, Pavan Malhotra, Atul Kulkarni, Supriya Pathak, Divya Dutta and Prem Chopra.

The film runs in parallel with the Ram Leela (the stage potrayal of Ramayan by theatre artists anywhere from 11 days to one month) at Chandini Chowk, a busy market place in North Delhi. The film tries to give a message through an imaginary character named Kala bandar (black monkey) that is rumoured to harass the residents of Chandni Chowk. There is a lot of chaos towards the end of the film when the community people mistake Abhishek to be the Kala bandar they have been lookign for. The scene in the heaven between Abhishek and his grandfather (Amitabh Bachchan) seems totally out of place - just imagine people eating jalebis (an Indian sweet made from jaggery syrup) at heaven and also licking their fingers. This is nothing when compared to what Abhishek suggests his grandfather, asking him to call up his wife (Abhishek's grandmother) who is still alive (on earth!) and say sorry. Technology at its best... eh?

Finally, the film should have been called 'Kala Bandar - The black monkey' instead. :D

Review - Dasvidaniya, AvakayBiryani

It was a busy weekend for me now that I have started looking for actors to act in my trailer and also somehow managed to watch two films - Dasvidaniya (Hindi) and AvakayBiryani (Telugu).

Dasvidaniya is a decent attempt to make a low budget film. Vinay Pathak (Amar Kaul) is the only face that stands out in this 2 hour filck. He acted really well, especially in the dumb charades scene where he expresses his love to Neha Dhupia in rain and also in the scene where he leaves Rajat Kapoor's (Vinay's friend in the movie) house at mid-night after overhearing Rajat's and his wife's conversation.

Neha Dhupia (Vinay's childhood friend) does not have a role to talk about - a blink and miss kind of role - and the director could have used anybody for that matter. The movie lacks in pace and you might sometimes also get a feeling of boredom. Kailash Kher's music is an asset to the film. Especially the first one and the Alvida song. The lyrics are pretty decent and hold your attention throughout.

Rajat Kapoor and Gaurav Gera (Vinay's brother in the film) have played their parts really well. On the whole, it is Vinay who carries the film on his shoulders.

AvakayBiryani, I must say, is a very slow movie. he director tried very hard to push the technical aspects of the film much more than he did to engage the audience at a stretch. The story revolves around Akbar (Kamal Kamaraju), an auto driver and Lakshmi (Bindu Madhavi), who sells avakayi (Pickle) in Vikarabad. The film also touches upon communal harmony and few rural issues. The plot could have been handled better. Cinematography by Shyam is good and music by Manikanth Kadri is average except for one song.

Kamal Kamaraju was good as Akbar, but Bindu Madhavi needs to improve a lot on her expressions. On the whole, AvakayBiryani might give a feel of telefilms aired on Doordarshan, but with good cinematography.

Mayabazar

Rating- ** 1/2

I watched Mayabazar (Telugu) last week. So, planned to write a review on it. Now do not ask me what Mayabazar means because it is a bit difficult to give a literal translation. But, it's quite a famous title, thanks to the old Mayabazar in black-and-white, which people still remember as a classic. The new one starts with Kubera (The one who lent Lord Balaji the money required for his wedding) being cursed by a sage for his arrogance, but when Kubera pleads him to show him a way to atone for his sin, the sage tells him that the only way he can come out of the curse is by helping a really good human being and serve him for as long as he lives.

Then enters the hero, Srinu (Raja) who is a driver, but is very generous and kind-hearted. He always dreams of becoming rich and helping the poor. There is Anupama (Bhoomika) who keeps following him wherever he goes. One day, he comes across a ten year old young girl, Siri, who is left behind by her father at the airport. Srinu rescues her and takes her to his house. Later, he comes to know that she is suffering from a heart problem and wouldn't survive for long unless it is operated upon and corrected, and he needs three lakh rupees for the same. He curses the God for being so cruel. Kubera hears him and gives him Rs. 5 lakh as debt and Srinu promises him that he will always be ready to give him whatever he wants in return. The girl gets cured and Srinu uses the remaining money to start a business, and he eventually becomes very rich.

Anupama joins him in doing social service as his personal secretary. They fall in love and plan to get married. Now, Kubera wants to get out of all this tension and comes up with a plan. He asks Srinu his life as repayment of his debt. Srinu asks him a week's time to settle everything properly. He tells Anupama that he has cancer and would die in a few days, but she insists on being married to him for at least a day. He requests Kubera to allow him to get married and that he (Kubera) could take his life after a day. Later, after marriage, they come to know that Anupama is Kubera's daughter and now she's married to Srinu. Kubera finally gives in and accepts Srinu as his son-in-law. Srinu takes a word from Kubera that he should use all the money he gets from Lord Balaji every month towards interest for the wellness of the poor. 'All is well that ends well'.

The first half seems a bit sluggsh, but one feels entertained towards the end of the film with good comic timing and well written dialogues. The music will not get onto you, and the songs are badly placed in the film.

Woh Lamhe...

Rating- ***

Woh Lamhe has Shiny Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut playing Aditya Garewal, a struggling director and Sana Azim, a successful heroine respectively. Sana Azim shares an abusive relationship with Nikhil, an actor who always makes it a point to remind her that whatever she is today is just because of him and his generosity. Aditya, on the other hand, wants to use her to become successful as a director, but he eventually falls in love with her. She dumps Nikhil and approaches Aditya and also agrees to act in his film, which goes on to become a huge hit. Aditya later finds out that Sana is schizophrenic and even gets stabbed by her in the process of getting her cured. The rest of the film shows the mental trauma that they both go through.

Though the movie has a tragic end, it connects well with the viewer. It might have got a four star rating if not for its second half which appeared sluggish at times. And, the other characters- Sammy, played by Purab and the doctor friend are adequate and do their job well. Kangana suits the role perfectly. Shiny looked better as an actor in Gangster, but he is a good choice for the role. This reel-life story was aided by the real life relationship between director, Mahesh Bhatt and the yesteryear popular actress, Parveen Babi, who passed away last year.

The music of the film was scored by Pritam. Kya mujhe pyaar hai alone is worth listening to.

Ab alvida hi kehna...

We couldn’t have celebrated Independence Day in a worse way. Everything went well until we decided to go out to a movie (It’s just another holiday for most of us :( ). We chose one of the recent releases – Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and, for us, it turned out to be an Independence Day lacking freedom. We got stuck in the hall for three and a half hours and the doors were opened only after the end of the show. I never cursed myself so much while watching a film. The question is why one should waste some crores of rupees in making a film like KANK. Moreover, it was a really lengthened movie.

The first thing I expected before the start of the film was the national anthem. Can’t you play it at least once a year? I remember watching a video of our national anthem at one of the theaters in Mumbai last month. It was such a wonderful video –twelve renowned singers of the country together rendering the national anthem. I felt disappointed even before the start of the film. And, the next three and a half hours consumed all my enthusiasm and energy. I always used to be skeptic about Karan Johar type films – utterly sentimental, high drama and no story line. (You may have to carry a few handkerchiefs with you if you are one who gets moved easily).

The music wasn't good either except Mitwa. It was rehashed, particularly one song (I don't remember the lyrics) which sounded exactly like a song from the movie Kyon Ho gaya Naa. No wonder because the music director trio is the same for both the films.

After watching it, I clearly understood the reason behind choosing that title for the film. Karan Johar is trying to tell his audience, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Please do not stop watching my films after this one). An apt title, I guess! :D I felt Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a lot better than this one (I personally couldn’t appreciate KKHH though). Looks like, he is diluting his films with time. On the whole, a nap at home instead would have been good for me. Alvida.

Akeelah and the Bee

In a place where dreams are hard to come by, one girl will start a journey.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

This film, Akeelah and the Bee looks promising. I watched the trailer this morning. The film is about an eleven year old girl who is very good at spellings but has some mental block to overcome fear. The film shows how she transforms herself and works toward winning the 'National Spelling Bee contest', which she does in the end. I will try and watch soon.

Page3

I know I'm writing very late about it but I happened to watch Page3 this morning. This is the first Madhur Bhandarkar film I have seen and, in short, I liked it. The page3 life was exposed to the heck (euphemism intended) of it. The characters seemed real, especially Konkana's, Boman's, Atul's and the one who played the cop, Bhonsle. He looked very promising. What's his name, by the way? I remember I had watched or should I say 'tried to watch' Chandni Bar long back when it was telecast on the TV. I turned it off after the first thirty minutes of show. Probably, I couldn't stand it then. But, I feel Page3 is a much better film than Chandni Bar, anytime. One can hardly make an attempt at making such films and moreover, coming out with the best outcome possible without experiencing them in real life. Mr.Bhandarkar proved this by giving a statement to a newspaper that both his films films Chandni Bar and Page3 were the result of the experiences he had had earlier in his life. To end with, it was a good, thought provoking film.
